Privacy Policy

ClipStack is a clipboard manager, which means it necessarily sees a great deal of what you do. This page explains exactly what happens to that information. The short version: it stays on your Mac.

What ClipStack stores, and where

ClipStack keeps a history of what you copy — text and images — so you can paste it back later. That history is written to a file inside your own user Library folder, at ~/Library/Application Support/ClipStack/, on the disk of the Mac you are using.

It is never uploaded, synced, backed up to us, or transmitted anywhere. We operate no server that receives clipboard contents and have no ability to read your history. If you delete the app and that folder, the data is gone.

What ClipStack deliberately ignores

When a password manager or another app marks a copy as confidential, macOS attaches a flag to it. ClipStack honours that flag and refuses the item outright — it never enters the history at all.

Network requests

ClipStack makes two network requests in total. Neither carries your clipboard contents.

• Update check. At most once a day, the app asks our server whether a newer version has been published. The request sends the version you are running so we can answer it. It downloads nothing on its own.
• Licence verification. When you activate a licence key, the app sends that key — and the name of your Mac, so you can recognise it in your purchase account — to Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider, to confirm it is valid. It re-checks about once a month afterwards so that refunded or revoked keys stop working. If that check fails for any reason, including being offline, nothing changes and your licence keeps working.

Both can be switched off in Preferences. There is no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no advertising or tracking technology of any kind in the app.

Permissions the app requests

ClipStack asks for one macOS permission: Accessibility. This is what allows it to paste into the app you were previously using. It is not used for any other purpose, and declining it simply means you press ⌘V yourself.

Purchases

Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record and is the seller of the licence to you. When you buy, you provide your details to them, not to us. We receive your email address and order details so we can deliver your licence key and provide support. We never see your full card number.

Lemon Squeezy's own privacy policy governs the information you give them at checkout.

This website

This site is static and sets no cookies of its own. When you open checkout, it is loaded from Lemon Squeezy, which may set cookies needed to process your payment under its own privacy policy. Our host, Cloudflare, records standard server logs, including IP addresses, as part of serving the page.

We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which sites link to us. It is privacy-first by design: it sets no cookies, uses no fingerprinting, does not track you across sites or over time, and never builds a profile of you. It reports aggregate figures only — page views, referring sites, countries, browsers — and we cannot identify an individual visitor from it.

If you arrive from another site, or from a link tagged with a source such as ?utm_source=reddit, the page remembers that source name for as long as the tab is open, using your browser's session storage rather than a cookie. When you click Buy, the source name is added to the checkout link so Lemon Squeezy records it with the order. It is only the name of the site or campaign, never anything about you.

When you download ClipStack, our server counts the download so we know how many people try it and where they heard about it. Each count records the source name, which page of this site you clicked from, your country, the kind of device (for example Mac or iPhone), whether the request looked like an automated bot, and the version downloaded. It does not record your IP address or anything that identifies you, and it sets no cookie.

Your rights

Because clipboard history never reaches us, there is nothing of yours for us to export or delete on request. For the purchase record held by our payment provider, you can contact us and we will help you exercise your rights under applicable law, including the GDPR where it applies.

Children

ClipStack is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
